The coming of the new season means two extraordinarily important things. There is the stripping away of some of the layers we've accumulated over the wintry months--both literally and figuratively--the lightening of the sky, the colours, the weather, our moods. And then there are the clothes.
In September and October 2011 the Spring/Summer Designer collections were debuted on runways from New York to Milan, and with the showing of these collections came the forecasts of what's in this Spring. So what can we expect to be in stores in the next few weeks? Think about peekaboo tummies, ethereal pastels and a tribute to the 20's and 30's with Art Deco influences being seen on everything from gowns to blazers.
Fringe, straight, boyish shapes, and geometrical detail have all been falling in and out of fashion for the last few years. This season its been even more pronounced with
Frida Giannini, designer for Gucci, dedicating an entire collection to the style. With the dropping of waistlines, and the appearance of backless styles we've once again reached into the past and modernized it just a little bit.

Pastel!Pastel! I can't say anyone will be shocked about that one -- blushes and lavenders to match the upcoming blooms. However as with anything in fashion, the right construction can completely change how we interpret something, and these pieces are anything but conventional.

Finally, take the removal of layers a little more seriously and show a little skin with cutout dresses and two-piece suits. The revealing of just a little bit skin always adds a little interest, and done the right way can look just as tasteful as a little black dress.
