Off the Bookshelf : The Sly Company of People Who Care.

I'm a reader. I don't know if you've grasped that yet, but I just love being able to find complete solace in a book. I unfortunately haven't been reading very much but I've been making a huge effort to stop doing everything else, including watching television, and just read. So Sunday afternoons in my nearby Chapters has become my favourite limin' spot. This wasn't one of my finds at Chapters but I had to share it.
The Sly Company of People Who Care by Rahul Bhattacharya was written by a cricket journalist from India, and is about his year long experience living in Guyana-- and boy is it an accurate representation of our culture. I can tell you that if you grew up in GT, or your parents are from there and have shared their stories with you, you will be dying laughing about the entire thing, from his adventures with the poke-knockers who nearly kill each other over some diamonds, to a sweet girl with chile-father issues, and a shine-eye mentality.
Pick it up, you will thoroughly enjoy it.

In the midst of a snowstorm...

In the midst of this terrible weather in the GTA, I just had to add some colour to both my life, and anyone who came across this post. It felt so lovely to finally look at something and feel inspired enough to share it with people. This artist currently lives in Toronto, but is originally from China. The vibrancy, highly saturated colour and simple abstract beauty of her canvas completely moved me.

Let Yangyang Pan move you, too, she has a showing of her work as well as a sale on March 27- March 31. I'm currently trying to coerce my mother to buy me a piece as an early birthday present... I'll let you know how that goes.

For Anonymous

Last week Anonymous left a comment asking me to answer a few questions regarding myself right now. Anonymous, just so you know, I would love to know your name. But alas, I'll  write.

 I have fallen out of love with the fashion industry a little. I think that perhaps it has disappointed me a little bit. When I went to New York for the bloggers' conference I anticipated returning to Toronto motivated and completely refreshed, and returned down trodden and uninspired.

And those feelings soon translated to the industry and how I looked at it. I am so sick of trends, and being bombarded in stores by studs, and neon, and the peplum all over the place. Then I got sick of looking at pictures of myself in the same poses again and again; and considering that I had made these outfit posts the focus of my posting it became more of a task to post things that I believed in, that I took seriously.

What got me started blogging was the interest I had in the world of fashion, and how idealistic it seemed and at the same time how out of reach. Studying it whilst writing about it gave me ample motivation, to put my thoughts out there, but what exposure does to you at the same time as giving you more reasons to love something, it allows you to see things that you don't really like about it. Now I'm not quite sure what I'll blog about, when I'll blog, I hope I can think stuff up that I believe in again, but it won't be the world's end if I don't.

So where do I intend on going now?  I am not quite sure, and I am slowly trying to accept that. I do think I am finished with fashion business in school for now--something in me tells me its time to move on, and I adamantly believe in following my gut. I have considered journalism and business management at Ryerson University as next moves, but I suppose only time will tell. I know whatever I choose I'll succeed at, and as soon as I choose something, I'll let the blogosphere know.

Going green.

Right now I'm in the process of painting my room and redecorating it, so I am constantly looking for simple but innovative decorations. Last week, I came across a post of someone re-purposing clear wine glasses and jars as planters I instantly thought I could use it in my room.
Aesthetically perfect-- so since I can't have a pet, I will present myself with a plant, whom I will name.

In my dreams I actually live in a place where winters are extremely mild, so much to say we'd just have a cool day. So to match my wild imagination are my wants which would not be able to keep me alive in the Toronto cold. But alas I must share with you this A-dorable jacket from Kate Spade, unfortunately at $498 it will stay in my imagination for a while longer-- perfect for cooler weather with a pair of jeans or over a full skirt. Love!!!
